Mathura: Revered across India, Saint Chetan Baba, also known as Chaitanya Das Baba in Mathura and Vrindavan, has been a living symbol of devotion for decades. Originally from West Bengal, he arrived in the Braj region around 40 years ago and has since dedicated his life to spiritual practice. For the past 37 years, he has been performing the Govardhan Parikrama, walking the sacred 21-kilometer route around Govardhan Hill twice daily.
Meeting with Saint Premanand Maharaj
Recently, the renowned saint Premanand Maharaj visited Govardhan and met Chetan Baba. Devotees formed long queues to receive blessings from Baba. During the meeting, Premanand Maharaj reflected on the spiritual wisdom of Baba, saying, “There is no problem in the world that cannot be solved; every difficulty has a way forward.”
A Life of Unwavering Devotion
Chetan Baba resides at Govind Kund in Anyar, at the base of Shri Giriraj Maharaj. Despite suffering from partial paralysis five years ago, which limited his mobility, he continues his daily spiritual regimen with remarkable dedication. Earlier, he used to perform the Parikrama three times a day, but due to leg weakness, he now completes two rounds.
Baba’s spiritual journey began with worship of Shri Giriraj Maharaj, and over time, he embraced the full circumambulation path. Along the route, he rests whenever necessary, maintaining both his health and devotion. Around Giriraj Maharaj, nearly two dozen other saints and devotees share this sacred space, dedicating their lives to chanting God’s name and living a life of selfless service.
Chetan Baba’s disciplined practice and deep devotion make him an inspiring figure for spiritual seekers, exemplifying perseverance, faith, and unwavering dedication to the divine.
