Gujarat Instagram Star Kirti Patel Arrested Under PASA Act, Detained in Vadodara Central Jail

Ahmedabad, Gujarat: Social media influencer Kirti Patel, known for her bold online persona with 1.3 million Instagram followers, has been arrested and detained in Vadodara Central Jail under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities (PASA) Act. The action was taken by Surat Police following allegations of criminal activities, public harassment, and extortion.

Allegations and Arrest

Kirti Patel, who has been in the spotlight for her assertive social media presence, faces charges of defaming individuals, forced extortion, and involvement in other criminal acts. Multiple FIRs have reportedly been registered against her in Surat, Gandhinagar, Patan, and Junagadh. She was last arrested in Ahmedabad.

Police allege that Patel continued to post threatening and abusive content online while allegedly pursuing extortion, even after being released on bail for prior offenses. Authorities stated that normal legal procedures were insufficient to curb her activities and maintain public order, prompting the use of the PASA Act.

PASA Act and Its Implications

The PASA Act, 1985, is aimed at individuals deemed dangerous to public safety, including bootleggers, drug offenders, property grabbers, and cyber criminals. The Act allows for preventive detention of those whose release may threaten public order. Under PASA, detainees are often held away from their home districts, making bail more difficult, with proceedings potentially taking up to one year.

Following her arrest under PASA, Kirti Patel was transferred to Vadodara Central Jail, where she remains in custody. The authorities have emphasized that this step was necessary to prevent potential anti-social activities and maintain law and order.
